President Droupadi Murmu Offers Condolences Following Tragic Train Collision in West Bengal

National Desk, 17th June: President Droupadi Murmu expressed profound grief on Monday over a tragic train accident in West Bengal, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a swift recovery for the injured.

In a statement shared on social media, President Murmu conveyed her deep distress regarding the loss of lives resulting from the collision between a goods train and the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express near Rangapani station in Darjeeling. The incident, which occurred in the Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district around 9 am, tragically claimed the lives of at least five individuals and left around 30 others injured.

The Kanchanjunga Express, originating from Guwahati and bound for Sealdah, suffered significant damage with three of its coaches derailing due to the impact of the collision.

President Murmu assured that her thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families during this difficult time. She also expressed hope for the successful execution of relief and rescue operations underway, emphasizing the urgency of providing necessary medical aid and support to the injured passengers.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also reacted promptly to the incident, expressing shock and swiftly mobilizing rescue and relief efforts. She confirmed the deployment of district authorities, disaster response teams, and medical units to the site to manage the crisis effectively.

The tragic accident has deeply shaken the region, prompting immediate responses from authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by the unforeseen collision.
