President Droupadi Murmu’s Inaugural Address Sets Tone for 18th Lok Sabha

National Desk, 27th June: Today marked a momentous occasion in India’s parliamentary calendar as President Droupadi Murmu delivered her inaugural address to a joint session of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Her address, significant under the third National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, highlighted several key themes and aspirations for the nation.

President Murmu began by congratulating the newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs) on their victories and acknowledged the trust placed by the people in the current government. She emphasized the historical significance of the 18th Lok Sabha, noting its formation during what she termed the early years of the Amrit Kaal (Golden Era). She also commemorated the upcoming 56th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India, underscoring its foundational importance to the nation.

In her address, President Murmu spoke about the stability of the government, highlighting that it has secured a complete majority for the third consecutive term, reflecting the people’s confidence in its ability to fulfill their aspirations. She outlined the government’s forthcoming legislative agenda, particularly focusing on the upcoming presentation of the first budget of the current term. This budget, she noted, will serve as a comprehensive document outlining the government’s extensive policies and forward-looking vision. President Murmu anticipated that the budget will include significant economic and social decisions, as well as historic initiatives aimed at shaping the nation’s future.

The joint session of Parliament commenced earlier this week with the convening of the 18th Lok Sabha, followed by the commencement of the Rajya Sabha session today. The re-election of Om Birla as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha was also a pivotal moment, underscoring a commitment to parliamentary traditions and the dignified conduct of legislative affairs.

President Murmu’s address sets the stage for robust parliamentary deliberations on national issues and legislative priorities in the days ahead, reaffirming the government’s resolve to steer India towards development and prosperity (‘Viksit Bharat’).
