President Murmu to Inaugurate 5th Meghalaya Games in Tura

Northeast Desk, 6th Jan: President Droupadi Murmu is set to inaugurate the 5th Meghalaya Games in Tura. Scheduled from January 15 to 20, 2024, this marks the first time the Games are being held outside Shillong city.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed his confirmation of President Murmu’s participation in the inaugural event. He shared on Instagram that her presence “will be a great encouragement for the youth of our state.”

The Games will witness the participation of over 3,000 athletes competing across 22 disciplines. Notably, traditional games of the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo tribes will be included for the first time.

The state government has allocated over Rs 23 crore for hosting the Games in Tura, West Garo Hills District.
