Guwahati: Eminent mask artist, Saint of Sattriya culture Vaishnava Dr. Hemchandra Goswami Deb of Sri Sri Samguri Satra of Majuli received the Padma Shri award from the President of India Draupadi Murmu.
Among the highest civilian awards in the country, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri are among the best awards. President Drupadi Murmu on Wednesday presented the Padma Award for the 2023 year at a civil jewellery ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Out Of the 106 Padma awards announced, six are Padma Vibhushan, 9 are Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri. Mulayam Singh Yadav, Zakir Hussain, K M Birla and Sudha Murthy are among the recipients of the 106 Padma awards this year.
On the other hand, Dr. Hemchandra Goswami a prominent mask artist of Assam the saint of Sattriya culture, the Vaishnava of Sri Sri Samguri Satra of Majuli also received the ‘Padma Shri’ award from the President of the country Draupadi Murmu.
It is to be noted that weaving artist Hemprabha Chutia has also received this year’s Padma Award.
