Presidential Polls Result 2022: Counting of Votes Begins in Parliament

Guwahati: The vote-counting process for the presidential election began at 11 am on Thursday.

NDA nominee Droupadi Murmu is on track to become the country’s first Adivasi president in addition to being the first president to be born in an independent India.

Former Union minister Yashwant Sinha is being challenged by a number of opposition parties, however not all non-NDA parties are in his corner.

Draupadi Murmu of the ruling NDA and Yashwant Sinha of the opposition are set against one another in the race, with Murmu undoubtedly winning due to the fact that, if elected, she would become the first tribal woman to hold the nation’s top constitutional position.

Meanwhile, Ram Nath Kovind’s tenure is ending on July 24 and the new president will take oath on July 25.

Voting for the presidency took place on Monday (July 18) at 31 locations, including the Parliament House and 30 centres inside state legislative assemblies. The race is between Yahswant Sinha of the opposition and Droupadi Murmu of the BJP-led NDA, with the former well in the lead.

According to the EC, the election was successfully concluded in a free, fair, and transparent manner. Over 98% of the 4,796 electors cast ballots in the presidential election, with 100% turnout achieved in 10 states and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
