Presidential Visit to Assam Postponed Again, Award Ceremony to Proceed with Governor
Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu’s eagerly anticipated day-long visit to Assam, slated for later this week, has been deferred due to “unavoidable circumstances,” officials confirmed on Tuesday. This marks the second instance of a postponement for the President’s trip to the northeastern state.
The President was scheduled to grace a state government function in Guwahati on Thursday, where she was set to confer the prestigious Srimanta Sankardeva Award upon renowned dance exponent Sonal Mansingh. Despite the change in the President’s itinerary, the award ceremony itself will proceed as planned.
An official from the Assam Governor’s Secretariat informed PTI that while the President’s visit stands postponed, the programme will go ahead, with the award being presented by the Governor. This decision has also been communicated to the Chief Minister’s principal secretary by the President’s Office.
It is pertinent to note that President Murmu had initially been scheduled to present the state award on April 25. However, that two-day visit was also postponed following the terror attack in Pahalgam and subsequent developments.
