Prez Murmu: Assam’s Development Is Essential for India’s Overall Progress

Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu stated that the state’s growth is crucial to the nation’s overall progress on the first day of her two-day visit to Assam.

The Assam government sponsored a civic event at the Assam Administrative Staff College in honour of President Murmu on Thursday night.

She said, “Through this visit, I am getting an opportunity to connect with the great traditions and achievements of India.”

“The cultural and spiritual splendour of Assam is very impressive. Extraordinary figures like Srimanta Sankaradeva and Madhabdev have enriched India’s spiritual and cultural tradition and worked to unite the society. There is much to be learned from the Bodo society of this region. Amazing talents like Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Bhupen Hazarika have given limitless gifts to Indian society and culture,” said President Murmu.

According to the President, Assam exhibits a rainbow of India’s geographic, social, and cultural diversity.

She added that she was pleased to see that the facilities in Assam and the North Eastern Region are being quickly upgraded to be comprehensive and cutting-edge. “The development of Assam is very vital for the overall success of the country,” she said.

“This is making life easier for the people and giving new impetus to the development of industries. The government of India has given special priority to the development of the Eastern and North Eastern Regions of the country. It has adopted the Act East Policy which has linked South-East Asia with the North Eastern Region, including Assam. With this change, the development of Assam is getting an international dimension,” the President said.

The President claimed that Assam’s tourist sector has enormous potential. Because of its magical locations like “Manas” and “Kaziranga,” Assam draws tourists.

“The central and state governments are preparing a better eco-system for the development of tourism,” she added.

She expressed confidence that these initiatives will soon show significant benefits, adding that this transition will create job opportunities for young people.

President Murmu officially opened the Param-Kamrupa supercomputer facility and the IIT Guwahati laboratory for the research and production of high power microwave components earlier today.

She also layed the cornerstones for two Zonal Institutes of the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Dibrugarh and opened the Medical College and Hospital in Dhubri.
