Prez Murmu to Attend Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral in London
Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu will visit London from September 17 through September 19 in order to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. This was announced on Wednesday by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
President Murmu would convey condolences to the longest-reigning monarch of the UK on behalf of the Indian Government.
The Ministry of External Affairs in a statement said that in the 70-years reign of Queen Elizabeth II, India-UK ties have “evolved, flourished and strengthened immensely”. She played an important role in the welfare of millions of people around the world as the Head of the Commonwealth.
The late Queen’s casket travelled from Edinburgh to London on Tuesday evening and spent the night at Buckingham Palace. The Queen passed away on September 8th at the age of 96 in Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands.
Nearly 500 dignitaries will be among the approximately 2,000 mourners attending the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey. On September 19, the funeral will begin at 3:30 PM (Indian time).
King Charles III was proclaimed as the new monarch of England on Saturday after his mother Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8. Moreover, upon the passing of the Queen, “God Save the King” will once more serve as Britain’s national song.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi all sent their condolences following the passing of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.
