Prez Polls: Draupadi Murmu Leading After First Round of Counting

Guwahati: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Draupadi Murmu is in the lead following the tabulation of the results from the first round of voting in the presidential elections on Thursday.

Out of the 748 votes cast by MPs, Murmu received 540 votes of 3,78,000 while Yashwant Sinha received 208 votes with a value of 1,45,600.

Meanwhile, a total of 15 votes in all have been ruled illegal.

This was informed by PC Mody, the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha.

A total of 4796 people cast ballots in the presidential election this time, with 99.9% of them exercising their right to vote, according to the New Election Commission.

There was 100 per cent voting in 11 states and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

The presidential election was held in 30 locations, including Delhi and Puducherry. 728 of the 736 voters—727 MPs and 9 MLAs—who were authorised by the Election Commission to cast ballots at Parliament House did so. At Parliament House, 98.91 percent of the electorate participated.

The villagers of Draupadi Murmu’s hamlet in Odisha’s Rairangpur had already started celebrating her triumph as counting took place at the Parliament House.
