Prime Accused In Dhula Minor Death Case Surrenders

Guwahati: One of the main suspects in the Dhula minor girl death case in Darrang, Assam, surrendered himself in to the Assam Police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday.

The superintendent of police (SP) Rajmohan Roy assigned to the Darrang district’s Dhula Police Station and who had been suspended ever since the incident came to light, has reportedly turned himself in to the CID.

After arriving at the CID office to surrender after being on the run since the event, Rajmohan Roy was quickly taken into custody.

It has come to light that he was called by the CID on Wednesday and showed up in their office as a result.

Meanwhile, Rajmohan Roy has been charged with attempting to hide the results of the inquiry into the slaying of a tribal girl.

It should be noted that on November 1 in the Darrang district of Assam, CID detained Utpal Bora, the officer in charge (OC) of the Dhula Police Station, in connection with the case.

Utpal was arrested for carelessness during the murder inquiry. According to reports, CID oversaw a special investigation team that looked into the situation. The chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma intervened to have the subject looked into.

Three doctors have also been arrested in connection with the 13-year-old girl’s unnatural death. The doctors that were arrested worked at the Mangaldoi Civil Hospital and were Drs. Arun Ch. Deka, Ajanta Bordoloi, and Anupam Sharma.

All three doctors were arrested for fabricating a suicide in the death of the young girl. The investigations undertaken showed that the three doctors made a number of errors and omissions when doing the initial post-mortem on the deceased person.

However, it was determined during the second post-mortem performed by high-level medical teams from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), AIIMS and NEIGRIHMS that the girl was murdered and abused rather than taking her own life.

The arrested doctors were placed into two-day police prison after being hauled before the Special Court in Mangaldoi on November 8.

The Additional SP of the Dhula Police Station Rupam Phukan had earlier been arrested for neglecting his duties and attempting to defend the accused. According to reports, Phukan took a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the accused’s family.

When it came to gathering visual records of the incident, such as photos and videos the Dhula Police acted with the utmost negligence. Additionally, it has been claimed that the OC of the Dhula Police Station exerted pressure on the deceased’s relatives to refrain from filing a written complaint about the unnatural death.

Meanwhile, search operation had also begun in SP Rajmohan Ray’s and Additional SP Rupam Phukan’s homes.

It should be noted that on August 12 the Dhula Police Station’s Rajmohan Ray, Rupam Phukan, and OC were placed on administrative leave after being accused of handling a case of an unnatural death of a little girl at Krishna Kamal Baruah’s residence in Dhula on June 11 improperly.
