Prime Minister Modi Congratulates Hokato Hotozhe Sema for Historic Paralympic Bronze

Northeast Desk, 7th September: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Hokato Hotozhe Sema for his historic bronze medal win in Men’s Shotput F57 at the Paris Paralympics. In a statement posted on X, Modi praised Sema’s strength and determination, calling it “a proud moment for our nation” and wishing him success in his future endeavors.

Hokato Hotozhe Sema, from Nagaland, has made history as the first athlete from his state to win a Paralympic medal for India. Sema achieved a personal best throw of 14.65 meters, surpassing the previous record of 13.49 meters held by Azerbaijan’s Olokhan Musayev. Iran’s Yasin Khosravi won gold with a throw of 15.96 meters, and Brazil’s Thiago Paulino dos Santos took silver with 15.06 meters.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also lauded Sema’s achievement, noting that his bronze medal marks the 27th medal for India at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Rio highlighted Sema’s journey and dedication, calling him a true inspiration and role model.

Born on December 24, 1983, Sema, who grew up in a farming family, had initially aspired to join the Special Forces. His path changed after a mine blast during a Counter Infiltration Operation on October 14, 2002, resulted in the loss of his left leg below the knee. Despite this, Sema’s resilience and commitment have now earned him a prominent place in Paralympic history.
