Prime Minister Modi to Unveil 125-Foot Statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan Amid Calls for Unity

Guwahati, 6th March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to reveal a monumental 125-foot statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan in Lahdoigarh, Holongapar, Jorhat. The announcement came from the Assam Chief Minister, emphasizing a series of significant events planned for the first week of March this year to honor the state’s rich history and cultural heritage.

In a recent statement, the Assam CM addressed concerns about potential protests, stating, “When Assam’s pride is set to soar, we urge for unity rather than agitation. PM Modi’s visit aims to unveil the 125-foot statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan, and it’s a day for genuine Assamese pride.”

Meanwhile, Diganta Tamuli, a Member of the Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA), emphasized Lachit Borphukan’s significance, stating, “Lachit Borphukan embodies the pride of Assamese people. With his leadership, Assam progressed. Even if protests arise, Lachit Borphukan’s spirit lives on in every Assamese.”

Echoing similar sentiments, All Assam Tai Ahom Student Union spokesperson Basanta Gogoi highlighted the importance of unity, stating, “In a democratic state, protests can be conducted peacefully. However, we should unite in honoring Lachit Borphukan, our savior. Let us embrace the inauguration of his statue on 9th March without dissent.”

The unveiling of Bir Lachit Borphukan’s statue stands as a testament to Assam’s enduring pride and the celebration of its cultural heritage.
