Priyanka Gandhi Slams Centre Over Manipur Violence After CRPF Jawan’s Death
Northeast, July 14, 2024: In a scathing critique of the central government, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the ongoing violence in Manipur following the death of a CRPF jawan in an attack on Sunday.
Priyanka Gandhi took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her sorrow and anger over the death of the soldier, Ajay Kumar Jha, who was killed in a gun attack by suspected militants at Mongbung village in Manipur’s Jiribam district.
“The news of the martyrdom of a soldier in the attack on a CRPF convoy in Manipur is extremely saddening. May God grant peace to the departed soul. Deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” she wrote in Hindi.
She criticized the central government’s handling of the situation in Manipur, pointing out the continuous violence since May 3 last year.
“A state has completely fallen apart. After all, when will the central government and the Prime Minister wake up from their sleep?” she questioned.
The attack took place on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of 43-year-old CRPF jawan Ajay Kumar Jha, a resident of Bihar. He suffered bullet injuries to the head and was declared dead at the hospital.
Additionally, a policeman was injured in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment. Authorities have reported that he is out of danger.
Manipur has been experiencing prolonged unrest, with violence persisting for over a year. The incident highlights the state’s fragile security situation and has sparked calls for more decisive action from the central government.
Priyanka Gandhi’s comments reflect growing frustration and demand for accountability from the central authorities regarding the continuing instability in the region.
