Priyanka Rajkakati from Assam Successfully Concludes Expedition to Antarctica

Guwahati, 23rd November: Proving the prowess of Assam’s daughters, aerospace engineer Priyanka Rajkakati has successfully completed her inaugural journey to Antarctica.

Sharing captivating pictures from the expedition, Priyanka proudly showcased her home state Assam from the Southern hemisphere.

Congratulations are pouring in for Priyanka, who aspired to become the first Assamese woman to venture into the Southern hemisphere while carrying Assam’s cultural emblem, the Gamocha.

Priyanka’s connection with Assam goes beyond her ethnicity, as her sponsors for this extraordinary expedition are Assam Tourism and the Government of Assam.

Engaging in the Homeward Bound program, Priyanka joins over 80 women scientists with backgrounds in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) from 18 different countries. The challenging 19-night journey to Antarctica involves crossing the perilous Drake’s Passage, known for waves that can reach up to 60 feet. The landings are planned near the Southern Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.
