Professor Chandan Mahanta, Eminent Academic and Researcher, Passes Away at 61

Guwahati, 26th September: Professor Chandan Mahanta, a distinguished academic and researcher, has passed away at the age of 61 after a two-year battle with Glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain tumor. He breathed his last at his residence on the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on Tuesday.

Professor Mahanta was one of the earliest members of IIT Guwahati and made significant contributions to the academic and scientific community. He served in various important roles, including as the Dean of Students Affairs, the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, and the Center for Environment.

His dedication to education and research left an indelible mark, and he played a pivotal role in shaping the academic landscape at IIT Guwahati.

The news of his passing was shared by the official handle of IIT Guwahati on X (formerly Twitter), and tributes have poured in from colleagues, students, and the academic community to honor his memory and contributions.
