Prohibitory Orders Imposed in Manipur’s Churachandpur to Prevent Possible Violence

Imphal: Authorities in Manipur’s Churachandpur district have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita, effective for three days, to prevent potential violence in the district headquarter town.

The restrictions, which began on Wednesday evening, are set to remain in force until 5 AM on October 18, 2024, unless extended.

According to an official order, the decision was taken after the superintendent of police reported a significant risk of a law-and-order breakdown, which could jeopardize public peace and tranquillity in the town.

The prohibitory orders ban unauthorized processions, unlawful assembly of five or more persons, and the carrying of arms or items that could be used as weapons, such as sticks, rods, and stones.

A district official stated that the move was aimed at pre-empting possible clashes among volunteers or groups in Churachandpur town.

The authorities have emphasized that maintaining peace and order during this period is of paramount importance to avoid any disturbances or violence.
