Prominent Leader Phuri Sherpa Resigns from Citizen Action Party-Sikkim Over “Anti-Sikkimese” Remarks

Gangtok: In a significant shake-up within Sikkim’s political landscape, Phuri Sherpa, a prominent figure in the Citizen Action Party-Sikkim (CAP-Sikkim), has tendered her resignation from the party’s primary membership, citing profound disagreement with recent public pronouncements by the party president.

The resignation letter, formally submitted today and addressed to the party president at the IBM office in Rangpo, East Sikkim, explicitly stated Sherpa’s discontent. She highlighted that the president’s remarks, delivered “through speeches and social media,” ran “against the sentiments of the Sikkimese people.” This public split underscores growing internal discord over the party’s messaging and its alignment with public opinion.

Sherpa, who held crucial roles within the CAP-Sikkim as President of the All Sikkim Women’s Council and Senior Spokesperson, was a visible and influential voice for the regional outfit. Her departure marks a notable fissure in the party’s leadership, raising questions about its future direction and unity.

In her terse yet impactful resignation letter, Sherpa stated, “I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Citizen Action Party-Sikkim with immediate effect.” Despite the clear divergence in views, she conveyed a sense of gratitude for her time with the organisation. “I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the party for allowing me to serve in various capacities,” she wrote, also extending thanks to party members for their unwavering support during her tenure in leadership positions.
