Guwahati: There were widespread demonstrations following the online leak of disturbing images showing a number of female students having baths at Chandigarh University in Punjab.
These tapes were reportedly made by a female student and shared with a male classmate, who then allegedly posted the video online.
Eight female students made suicide attempts after the tapes were shared.
There were reportedly 60 of these videos that were leaked online. When confronted by other girls and the hostel staff, the accused admitted to doing this.
According to sources, the Mohali-born youngster who made the tapes gave them to a friend who lives in Shimla.
The management of the university, according to the protesting females, allegedly covered up the entire episode.
Harjot Singh Bains, the education minister for Punjab, meanwhile pleaded with the protesting girls to calm down.
