Protesters in Mizoram from AAP burn PM Modi’s photo in Response to MP Sanjay Singh’s Detainment in Delhi Liquor Policy Case
Northeast Desk, 6th October: Members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a protest against the arrest of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case in Aizawl, Mizoram. Demonstrators took to the streets and burned a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a symbolic gesture of their dissent.
AAP supporters gathered at Treasury Street in Aizawl and voiced their opposition to the BJP-led government by chanting slogans. They carried placards that questioned the reasons behind Sanjay Singh’s arrest, with messages such as “Sanjay Singh raised the issue of Manipur, that’s why he is in jail?” while another one reads, “Sanjay Singh exposed Modi Adani link, that’s why he is jail?.”
Sanjay Singh, a Member of Parliament from the Aam Aadmi Party, was apprehended on October 4 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of an ongoing money laundering probe related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy for the year 2021-22. The ED has accused Singh, who was taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, of playing a significant role in formulating and executing the now-defunct policy, which is alleged to have favored specific liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.
Earlier this year, the ED had filed charges against former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, revealing connections between Singh, Sisodia, and restaurateur Dinesh Arora.
