Protesting Wrestlers to Throw Medals in River Ganga
National desk, 30 May: Wrestlers to throw away all the medals won for the country at the Ganga in Haridwar at 6 pm on Tuesday, said Bajrang Punia.
Bajrang Punia tweeted, “Using our image, leaders actually promote themselves. Our medals are sacred. And Ganga is our mother. So I will throw the most sacred thing of my life in my mother’s lap”. Wrestlers had accused against the President of Wrestling Federation of India Brij Bhushan Singh. They are on demand for his removal from the post as the president Brijbhushan has been accused of sexual assault. However, ruling BJP MP Brij Bhushan denied the allegations. The athletes have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi since last month demanding his removal.
Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Bhogat etc. have also said that they will go on a fast-unto-death but will not stop their protest. “Medals are everything in our lives,” says Bajrang Punia. “If they don’t exist and what will I survive for! We will sit on a hunger strike in front of India Gate.”
The wrestlers also said that the real purpose of the fast unto death is that the country should stand against the women wrestlers. As the wrestlers made India proud every time.
Earlier, several wrestlers were detained for trying to protest in front of the new Parliament building. Among them are several Olympians and Commonwealth Games medalists. They have been on sit-in for several days demanding the arrest of Wrestling Association of India President Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.
