Protestors Burn Effigies of Kuki MLAs in Manipur

Northeast Desk, 4th May: In commemoration of one year since alleged violence against Meiteis, protestors gathered to burn effigies of 10 Kuki MLAs at Pangei Yangdong on May 3. The protest demonstration, organized by PYAL, Thougei Pangei Yangdong, PYYDA, and WWA Pangei, saw participation from various areas.

During the demonstration, homage was paid to Haobijam Somenkumar, Okram Sanaton, and other martyrs from the locality who lost their lives standing for Manipur’s cause, observed with two minutes of silence.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s perceived unequal enforcement of the law in hill and valley districts, protestors alleged that Kuki MLAs contributed to state conflicts, prompting the burning of their effigies.

Addressing concerns about youth involvement in defending Meitei villages from armed militants, protestors urged the government to expedite efforts to end violence and restore normalcy in Manipur.
