Public Consultation Held for Proposed 12,500 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project in Arunachal Pradesh
Yingkiong– A public consultation meeting regarding the proposed 12,500 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project was held on Saturday, organized by the All Upper Siang District Students’ Union (AUSDSU). The event attracted elected public representatives, civil society organizations, and members from families directly affected by the project.
The primary focus of the meeting was to discuss the pre-feasibility report (PFR) of the initiative, which aims to harness the hydroelectric potential of the Siang River. Participants voiced their concerns and perspectives on the potential impacts of the project on both the local community and the environment.
The AUSDSU emphasized the necessity of community involvement in such large-scale projects, advocating for stakeholders to take into account the views of those who will be directly impacted. “It’s crucial that the voices of the local communities are heard and considered in the decision-making process,” said an AUSDSU representative.
This consultation is part of broader efforts to ensure transparency and inclusiveness in the planning stages of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. By facilitating dialogue among stakeholders, the AUSDSU aims to address concerns and foster a collaborative approach to development in the region.
