Public Safety at Risk as Reckless Behavior and ‘Siren Gang’ Cause Chaos in Guwahati

Guwahati has been rocked by two alarming incidents, raising concerns over public safety and the enforcement of traffic laws. The reckless actions, occurring in separate areas of the city, have sparked public outrage and highlighted gaps in monitoring unlawful behavior.

In the first incident, a young man was seen performing a dangerous stunt in Ganeshguri by riding on top of a moving vehicle while holding a lit cigarette. The vehicle’s number plate was deliberately obscured, with only a partial registration visible—AS01EW315, with the last digit unclear. The act not only disrupted the flow of traffic but also posed a serious risk to road safety, drawing criticism from residents demanding stricter action against such violations.

In a separate occurrence at Beltola Market, the notorious ‘Siren Gang’ re-emerged, spreading panic among locals. A private vehicle with registration number AS01FF3872 was caught using an unauthorized siren, causing confusion and alarm in the busy market area. The misuse of sirens by private vehicles has become an increasing concern, as it misleads the public and undermines the authority of official emergency services.

The two incidents have intensified calls for more stringent enforcement measures and increased surveillance to curb reckless behavior on the city’s roads. Local authorities are yet to comment on whether investigations into both cases are underway.
