Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP Chief To Arrive in Guwahati Today

Guwahati: Chief minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann and the leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is all set to arrive in Guwahati on Sunday.

Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart will arrive today to boost the spirits of the party’s activists here in Assam along with the secondary goal of establishing the presence of AAP in the northeast as a genuine alternative to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader will arrive at the Borjhar airport in Guwahati at around 1:30 pm today. And he will be addressing a public gathering in the city and preparation for which has been going on for a while.

The AAP state unit scheduled a press conference to discuss his tour of the state on Friday in advance of his visit. There the state unit of AAP declared that this would be a significant moment in Assam’s political history.

During a news conference held here in Guwahati, members of the AAP Assam unit predicted that both chief ministers, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann will make significant announcements that might drastically alter the political landscape of the state.

“Our party members are working hard day and night to witness a corruption-free government in the state, April 2 will be a landmark day for the Assam politics,” said Kamal Medhi, Joint Coordinator, AAP Assam.

However, two days before Dr. Bhaben Choudhury, the state coordinator for AAP Assam had urged Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma to take a closer look at some of the issues facing by city people.

Meanwhile, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam on March 31called AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal a “coward” and dared him to criticise him in public.

CM Sarma said, ”So far, I haven’t filed any case. Is there any pending against me in the entire country? I wanted to file a defamation case, but Arvind Kejriwal, like a coward, spoke inside the Assembly. So let him come to Assam on April 2nd and say that there is a case pending against Himanta Biswa Sarma. I will sue him right away.”

He further said, ”I challenge him to show a single case against me. Which case is there against me? Let him come on April 2nd and speak against me a single word that I am corrupt and next I am going to file a defamation case. The same thing I have done with Manish…”
