Rahul Gandhi Arrested during Congress Protest over Sonia’s ED Grilling
Guwahati: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several party MPs were held by police on Tuesday at Vijay Chowk after they protested Sonia Gandhi’s grilling by the Enforcement Directorate.
Rahul Gandhi and other Congress members assembled at Vijay Chowk and marched toward the Rashtrapati Bhawan about alert the President to the alleged abuse of government agencies. Gandhi was placed in a police bus, but officials refused to say where they were taking him, according to a PTI report.
Several other Congress MPs at the Vijay Chowk protest sites were detained and taken away in separate police buses. Rahul Gandhi claimed, “Modi is a king, India is a police state.” He said that conversations were prohibited in the legislature.
“I am not going anywhere. We wanted to go towards the President’s house. But the police are not allowing us,” Gandhi said.
The Congress MPs had assembled in Parliament to discuss the party’s strategy prior to Sonia Gandhi’s second appearance before the Enforcement Directorate for interrogation in a money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper.
Rahul Gandhi has previously appeared in front of the investigation team for questioning about the same matter.
