Rahul Gandhi: ‘Country Witnessing Death Of Democracy’
Guwahati: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the federal government on Friday claiming that India was witnessing the demise of democracy due to concerns like inflation and price increases.
“What are your thoughts on the decline of democracy? In just 8 years, the nation’s 70 years of construction were devastated. In India today, there is no democracy!” Gandhi said while addressing a press conference in the national capital today.
Gandhi made the following remarks in a covert attack on PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and two businessmen: “In India today, a four-person dictatorship rules. We want to bring up issues like unemployment and inflation. We want to talk about how divided society is.”
“Parliament does not allow the opposition to speak. On the highway, we are detained. India is currently in this state. The media is unable to be courageous in the current climate ” he added.
Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Center had inserted “its people” into the workings of the administration.
“The opposition in a democracy relies on the power of institutions to fight. In other words, the nation has a judicial system, an electoral system, and as of right now, a media system. Nevertheless, the Central Government has placed its citizens in all of these institutions “explained Rahul Gandhi.
In the midst of continuous protests by the Congress party in the national capital over issues of price rise and unemployment, the Congress leader attended a press conference at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi.
The press conference was held two days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sealed the Young Indian Limited office within the National Herald building.
Gandhi has previously claimed that the BJP was using the probe into the National Herald case as a form of intimidation. The lawsuit relates to suspected financial irregularities at the National Herald newspaper’s owner, the Congress-supported Young Indian Private Limited.
“He said, “Whatever they [the BJP] do won’t matter. We are not afraid. I’ll keep working to defend our nation, its democracy, and its sense of brotherhood.” Added he, “They believe they can silence us by applying a little pressure. We won’t remain quiet. We are going to oppose what the BJP is doing. We won’t be scared off.”
