Rahul Gandhi criticizes PM Modi for prioritizing Israel-Hamas conflict over Manipur

Northeast Desk, 16th October: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of paying more attention to international affairs, particularly the Israel-Hamas conflict, than the internal issues in Manipur, which has been plagued by ethnic conflicts since May. Speaking at a rally in Mizoram, Gandhi highlighted the division in Manipur along ethnic lines and expressed concern over the lack of government action.

He reminded the audience that the Congress had brought peace to the insurgency-prone northeastern state with a peace accord in 1986. Gandhi emphasized the need for the government to address the unrest in Manipur and expressed disappointment that the Prime Minister had not visited the troubled region.

He also claimed that this situation was indicative of broader problems faced by minority communities, tribals, and Dalits in various parts of the country, pointing out that people were feeling uncomfortable and oppressed. Gandhi asserted that the idea of India, which celebrates diversity and tolerance, was under attack by the ruling party, the BJP.

Gandhi criticized the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) for its handling of issues such as job creation, the drug problem, and infrastructure, accusing it of harming the state’s economy. He urged the people to support the Congress in the upcoming Mizoram assembly elections, emphasizing that the party offered a vision for the state and had demonstrated good governance in states like Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

Gandhi emphasized the importance of defending the cultural, religious, and traditional values of Mizoram, as they represent a vital part of India’s diversity.
