Rahul Gandhi in chopper after convoy stopped by police in Manipur
National desk, 29 June: Rahul takes chopper to reach Churachandpur after being stuck for hours at Bishnupur.
Rahul Gandhi who was on a two-day visit to the ethnic strife-torn northeastern state from Thursday, came back to the Imphal airport from Bishnupru and boarded the helicopter, reports stated.
Earlier, Gandhi’s convoy was blocked from visiting relief camps and interacting with the people outside of Imphal on Thursday when a mob stopped them near the Bishnupur police station. This incident raised concerns about the government’s role in preventing Gandhi from doing so.
Rahul Gandhi’s motorcade abruptly coming to a stop caused confusion and worries, according to Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal. Venugopal remarked, “We are not able to understand why they have stopped us. People are standing on both sides of the road to wave to Rahul Gandhi.”
Another well-known Congress leader, Jairam Ramesh expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of affairs and emphasised the sad nature of the Modi Government’s claimed obstruction of Rahul Gandhi’s tour to relief camps and meetings with the populace outside of Imphal. Ramesh made sure to emphasise that Gandhi’s trip to Manipur was a part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a campaign designed to engage with many facets of society. He berated the government’s choice to obstruct Gandhi’s efforts to hear from all facets of Manipuri society and offer a consoling touch.
