Rahul Gandhi says unemployment due to PM Modi’s policies reason for Parliament breach
National Desk, 16th December: In a press statement on Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi connected the recent Parliament security breach to the prevailing unemployment crisis in India, squarely blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies. Emphasizing that citizens are grappling with unemployment and inflation due to Modi’s decisions, Gandhi identified these issues as the root causes behind the security breach. The Wayanad MP stressed that unemployment is the most significant challenge facing the Indian population currently.
Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge joined the criticism, taking a swipe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his media interactions without addressing the matter in the House. Responding to Shah’s accusation of opposition parties politicizing the security breach, Kharge retorted, “He seeks votes by taking Congress’s name and takes votes by abusing Nehru ji and Gandhi ji.”
The ongoing clash between the BJP-led Centre and the Opposition intensified over the December 13 Parliament security breach, coinciding with the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack. Opposition parties, including Congress, accused the BJP after visitors’ passes were found issued in the name of BJP MP Pratip Simha for two of the six accused.
The breach involved intruders leaping into the Lok Sabha chamber during Zero Hour, releasing yellow canisters hidden in their shoes, and chanting slogans. The chaos concluded as MPs and security staff overpowered them. Two more accused protested outside the Parliament premises. The alleged mastermind, Lalit Jha, surrendered on Thursday night.
Four accused, including the intruders, were remanded to 7-day police custody on Thursday. Lalit Jha faced a similar fate on Friday, while Mahesh Kumawat was detained in connection with the case.
