Rahul Gandhi to visit violence-hit Manipur on June 29
National Desk, 28 June: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be visiting violence hit Manipur on June 29, informed by Congress General Secretary K C Venugopall.
During his tour to the state, Rahul Gandhi will visit relief camps and speak with the leaders of civil society in Churachandpur and Imphal, according to Venugopal.
Taking to Twiiter, K C Venugopal wrote, “Sh. @RahulGandhi ji will be visiting Manipur on 29-30 June. He will visit relief camps and interact with civil society representatives in Imphal and Churachandpur during his visit. Manipur has been burning for nearly two months, and desperately needs a healing touch so that the society can move from conflict to peace. This is a humanitarian tragedy and it is our responsibility to be a force of love, not hate.”
The Assam Rifles’ efforts have played a crucial road in mitigating the situation after the violence that broke out in Manipur in May 2023. The state’s residents were left without access to basic necessities like food rations, water, shelter and medical care after a curfew was imposed and movement restrictions were put in place, the report claimed.
Notably, Assam Rifles have evacuated over 50,000 displaced people from the violent Manipur to far and have given them safe passage, shelter, food and medicine, the paramilitary force said in a statement.
