Rahul Gandhi Urges PM Modi to Visit Manipur Amidst Ongoing Violence, Vows Parliamentary Action

National Desk, 11th July: In the wake of escalating violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has intensified calls for peace, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally intervene and address the crisis. Gandhi’s statements come days after his visit to the strife-torn state, where he witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the conflict.

In a social media post shared on Thursday, Gandhi reiterated the urgent need for Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur and engage directly with the affected people to facilitate peace talks. He emphasized that the situation remains dire, with homes destroyed, lives endangered, and thousands displaced, forced to seek refuge in relief camps.

“I have visited Manipur three times since violence broke out there, but unfortunately, there is no improvement in the situation,” Gandhi lamented, highlighting the persistent division within the state. During his recent day-long visit, Gandhi visited three relief camps across different districts, interacting with residents from both communities affected by the violence.

Gandhi’s visit underscores the ongoing efforts by the Congress party and the INDIA bloc to address the crisis through parliamentary channels. He pledged robust parliamentary action to pressure the government into ending the tragedy unfolding in Manipur.

“We can put pressure on the government, and we will put pressure on them,” Gandhi assured the affected people during his interactions at the relief camps. He promised to continue advocating for their cause in upcoming parliamentary sessions, emphasizing the need for immediate relief and long-term solutions to restore peace and stability in Manipur.

Since the outbreak of violence in May last year, Manipur has witnessed over 200 casualties and widespread displacement due to large-scale arson and communal clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The situation remains volatile, prompting calls for urgent humanitarian aid and governmental intervention to mitigate further escalation.

Gandhi’s advocacy aims to galvanize national attention and support for the people of Manipur, urging coordinated efforts to bring an end to the ongoing tragedy and facilitate reconciliation among the affected communities.
