Rahul Gandhi Warns Assam Congress MLAs During ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’

Guwahati, 14th February: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently disclosed that Rahul Gandhi issued a stern warning to Assam Congress legislators during his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’. According to Sarma, Gandhi threatened the MLAs with expulsion if they failed to disrupt the Assembly proceedings.

Sarma revealed, “When Rahul Gandhi came to Assam, there was a meeting with opposition party leaders, where a legislator informed him that none of the Congress MLAs criticized the state government…Before leaving Assam, Rahul Gandhi gathered all Assam Congress MLAs on his yatra bus and warned them that they must obstruct the functioning of the Assam Assembly. If they couldn’t criticize the chief minister, they would face expulsion from the party for at least 15 years.”

Moreover, Sarma criticized Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, suggesting it’s contributing to the fragmentation of the Congress party.

This revelation comes after two Assam Congress MLAs, Kamalaksh De Purkayastha and Basant Das, decided to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public welfare policies. Out of Assam Congress’s 25 MLAs, four, including Shashi Kant Das and Siddiq Ahmed, have already joined the BJP’s Vikas Yatra.

Sarma further asserted that the remaining 21 MLAs from the Congress party would also join the BJP in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha resigned from the post of Working President, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, stating that he would continue as a primary member of the Congress party.
