Raid Conducted by Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell at Suspended ACS Officer’s Residence in MPLAD Scam Probe

Guwahati, 12th December: The Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell conducted a raid on Tuesday at the residence of suspended ACS officer Sukanya Borah, who is implicated in the MPLAD scam in Assam.

Borah, the Additional District Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, was suspended in March this year for alleged irregularities in MPLAD fund utilization.

The Gauhati High Court had dismissed Borah’s anticipatory bail plea in May. The scam revolves around the allocation of funds from Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan’s MPLAD fund for a road construction project in Assam’s Barpeta.

The bill was released before 75 percent of the work was completed, leading to an investigation by the CM’s Special Vigilance cell. The probe revealed that the suspended officers signed the bill prematurely.

In September, former Union minister Ranee Narah from Assam was summoned in connection to the fund scam, specifically for alleged embezzlement of funds intended for the installation of hand pumps in Jorhat.
