Raijor Dal stages protest against price hike in Guwahati
Guwahati: Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi led political party Raijor Dal staged a demonstration at Guwahati Club against the soaring prices of essential commodities.
People have been traumatised by price increases in veggies, groceries, prescriptions, and petrol. On the one side, the BJP-led government in Assam is commemorating its one-year anniversary in various parts of the state, whether by visiting a resort or inviting union ministers, while the general populace has been sent into a panic by price hikes in critical items.
The Raijor Dal has staged a protest calling for price control. Agra potato costs Rs. 25, compared to Rs. 20-22 previously. “Food, pharmaceutical, and vegetable prices have all jumped threefold since last year”, party chief Akhil Gogoi said.
Giving few examples of price hike Gogoi added, ” During the Narendra Modi government, a red lentil that formerly cost Rs. 48 now costs Rs. 110. Mustard oil, which used to be Rs. 80, is now Rs. 220. This is only one example; everything costs twice as much or more under the BJP government. “The BJP has placed the country in the hands of corporations.”
Akhil further stated thta the party has began the protest today and continue until the government comes up with a solution to price control.
“The government has evolved into a government for crorepatis rather than the general populace. The chief minister is seen on a chartered aeroplane, helicopters, he added.
Moreover, Gogoi said that at the time when the public has been harassed with the continuos price hike of essentials, the government is conducting a meeting in the resorts.”
