Rain Plays Spoilsport In Ind Vs NZ 2nd ODI

Guwahati: Rain forced the cancellation of the second of the three-match series between India and New Zealand, with the Men in Blue scoring 89/1 in 12.5 overs at the time rain finally intervened and ended any chance of further play.

Unbeaten at the crease were Shubman Gill (45* off 42 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (34* off 25 balls).

India stood at 22/0 in 4.5 overs after being put in to bat by the Kiwis when play was initially halted by rain. Rain forced a postponement, and the game was restarted with 29 overs each side.

India’s captain Shikhar Dhawan was quickly defeated by Matt Henry for only three runs after the game resumed.

Gill and Suryakumar put up 66 runs for the second wicket after Shikhar was out. However, rain once again played the spoiler, preventing spectators from seeing any more action between these two intriguing sides.

The third ODI will take place in Christchurch on Wednesday.

New Zealand defeated India by seven wickets in the first one-day international to take a 1-0 series lead. In their 50 overs, India was able to score 306/7, with fifty-plus scores from Shreyas Iyer (80), Dhawan (72) and Gill Tim Southee and Lockie Fergsuon, two pacers, each took three wickets.

India had NZ reeling at 88/3 in 19.5 overs while chasing 307. However, a 221-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Captain Kane Williamson (94*) and Tom Latham (145*) enabled the Kiwis win the game.

On his debut, Umran Malik (2/66) was the preferred Indian bowler.

Prior to this T20I series, India took a 1-0 victory. Rain absolutely swept out the first T20I. With Suryakumar (111*) and Deepak Hooda (4/10), India won the second T20I by 65 runs. The third T20I was similarly halted by weather as India attempted to chase down 161 runs with Men in Blue at 75/4 after nine overs.
