Rajasthan: 3 Killed, Several Injured in a Stampede at Sikar
Guwahati: As many as three people and many others got injured at a stampede at the Khatu Shyamji Temple in Rajasthan’s Sikar when the temple’s entrance doors were opened early on Monday during a monthly fair.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his sympathies for the deaths caused by the stampede and wished those hurt in the incident a fast recovery.
“Saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at the Khatu Shyamji Temple complex in Sikar, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that those who are injured recover at the earliest,” PM Modi said in a tweet.
As per reports, two injured patients were sent to a Jaipur hospital. Police arrived quickly to manage the crowd.
Moreover, two of the injured have been shifted to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur for medical attention. Several other injured people were released after receiving care at a PHC outside the temple.
Reportedly, a stampede broke out at the temple’s entrance around five in the morning. Currently, it is considered lucky to have Khatu Shyam Ji’s darshan on the eleventh day of the lunar calendar, who is thought to be a manifestation of Lord Krishna.The temple is considered to be one of the most important pilgrim destinations in Rajasthan and sees huge crowds.
According to reports, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also expressed his sorrow over the deaths caused by the stampede and wished the injured a swift recovery shortly after the incident.
Taking to Twitter, Gehlot wrote “The death of three women devotees due to a stampede in Khatu Shyamji Temple in Sikar is very sad and unfortunate. My deepest sympathies are with the bereaved family, may God give them strength to bear this loss and may the departed soul rest in peace.”
“Wishing a speedy recovery to the devotees injured in the stampede,” he said in a subsequent tweet.
