Rajasthan: Groom, 8 others dead after car falls in river

Guwahati: In a horrific incident nine people, including the groom, were killed when their car crashed into the Chambal River in Rajasthan. They were on their way to the wedding.

The incident occurred in the Chambal neighbourhood of Chhoti Pulia, in the Nayapur police station of Kota, Rajasthan. Local police and district administration workers raced to the scene after hearing the news, according to ANI. The rescue mission got underway right away.

A crane was used to raise the car out of the water, according to reports. The bodies were also found and taken to be autopsied. The car was reportedly on its way to Ujjain for the wedding. However, it abruptly lost control and crashed into the river.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted condolences. He said, “It is very sad and tragic that 9 people including the groom were killed when a car carrying the bride and groom went into the Chambal River in Kota. I called the district magistrate and inquired in detail. My sincere condolences to the families of the victims. May God give them strength to endure this trauma and give peace to the souls of the dead.”
