Rajya Sabha Elections For 57 Seats: Whose warriors will hit the field, political turmoil intensifies
Guwahati: As the parties are gearing up for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election on June 10 which is extremely crucial because it comes ahead of the Presidential election.
While all of the political equations in the country’s politics surrounding this election are forming and deteriorating, the upheaval inside all of the political parties continues. In June and July, these Rajya Sabha seats will become vacant.
P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, Kapil Sibal, Ambika Soni, Vivek Tankha of the Congress, and Piyush Goyal and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe of the BJP are among the notable names whose terms are coming to an end. Shiv Sena’s Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Nirmala Sitharaman, Sanjay Raut, (Nationalist Congress Party) NCP’s Praful Patel, (Bahujan Samaj Party) BSP’s Satish Chandra Mishra, and (Rashtriya Janata Dal) RJD’s Misa Bharti are all notable.
While all of these politicians aim to make a return, political parties have begun to use the Rajya Sabha as a weapon in the approaching political battles. An example of this was identified in an experiment conducted by the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. Seven of the 11 seats up for grabs in Uttar Pradesh are expected to go to the BJP, with three seats going to the SP. On the 11th seat, elections are anticipated to be held. Because to the political dynamics, the SP decided not to give two of the three seats to its party members. It made it easy to get into the Rajya Sabha by backing veteran Congress leader Kapil Sibal in one seat, while fielding its ally Jayant Chaudhary in the other.
How many seats are there in each location, and who owns them?
11 seats in Uttar Pradesh, six seats in Maharashtra-Tamil Nadu, five seats in Bihar, four seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan, three seats each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, and two seats each in Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Haryana, Jharkhand, and one seat in Uttarakhand are among the 57 seats up for election.
In Maharashtra out of six seats, four will go to the Maha Vikas Aghadi and two to the BJP. The Congress, Shiv Sena, and NCP will each get one seat out of the four here, and the fourth seat would be selected by mutual accord. The three ruling parties are thought to be able to endorse and send an independent candidate.
In Tamil Nadu, three seats are predicted to move to the treasury benches, while three seats are likely to go to the opposition benches. One of the three seats will be given to the DMK’s ally Congress, according to the DMK.
In Bihar, the RJD and BJP will each get two seats, while the JD(U) will get one. This time, the JDU has failed miserably. There’s also a disagreement over seat sharing.
The YSR Congress will win three to four seats in Andhra Pradesh. In Karnataka, two of the BJP’s accounts are in the hands of the Congress, which has one seat in its account and will have to attempt for the other.
Three seats are predicted to go to the Congress and one to the BJP in Rajasthan. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP will win two seats and the Congress will win one. Two of the three seats in Odisha could go to the BJD, while the third could go to the BJP.
There will be just one party in these states: The AAP will hold both seats in Punjab, the Congress will hold both seats in Chhattisgarh, and the TRS will hold both seats in Telangana.
In Haryana, one seat will go to the BJP and one to the Congress, and in Jharkhand, one would go to the ruling alliance and one to the BJP. A fight is brewing between the JMM and the Congress over a seat near the ruling camp. The BJP will win the seat in Uttarakhand.
There is a long line of candidates within the Congress.
The Congress’s already weakened position in the Lok Sabha is eroding in the Rajya Sabha as well. While it currently has 9 seats in its account, it is projected to receive 11 seats in the next vacancy. Within the Congress, there is a lot of discussion regarding the Rajya Sabha seats right now. At this point, the leaders are also manipulating the situation. With the help of the Samajwadi Party, Congress’ leading candidate Kapil Sibal has already earned his seat in Uttar Pradesh. All of the major names, on the other hand, are lined up in front of the Rajya Sabha. P. Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Kumari Selja, Jairam Ramesh, Mukul Wasnik, Randeep Surjewala, Ajay Maken, and Rajiv Shukla are some of the names listed.
One of the Congress’s problems is that elections in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, where more of its seats are vacant, will be held next year. In such a case, the Congress faces the challenge of sending an outsider from these states, which could send the incorrect signal in the state and cause resentment within the party. Chidambaram of Tamil Nadu and Jairam Ramesh of Karnataka are among the key names being canvassed.
Chidambaram recently met with DMK supremo M K Stalin. However, Rahul Gandhi is attempting to send Praveen Chakravarty, the Congress’s head of Data Analysis for this seat. At the same time, Selja Kumari from Haryana are being named, ranging from Randeep Singh Surjewala to Anand Sharma. Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is reportedly courting Anand Sharma, while Sonia Gandhi is after Selja Kumari.
