Rakshabandhan: A Time to Celebrate the Bond Of Love Between A Brother And A Sister

Guwahati: Hindus are observing the auspicious holiday of Raksha Bandhan today.

The festival is observed during the Shravan month, which falls usually around August. The celebration honours the lovely bond between brothers and sisters. Sisters pray for their brothers’ health and prosperity while tying a thread known as a Rakhi around their wrists. Additionally, sisters tilak their brother’s forehead and exchange presents and candies.

The festival commemorates Shravan Poornima, or the day of the full moon in the Shravan month. The festival takes place this year on August 11 and 12. The Kashi Vishwanath Rishikesh panchang states that the shravan purnima tithi begins on August 11 at 9:34 am and finishes on August 12 at 5:58 am.

According to the Hindu division of the day, Aparahna, or late afternoon, is the ideal time to tie a rakhi. Pradosh time is ideal for ceremonies if Aparahna time is not available.

Meanwhile, Raksha Bandhan greetings have been sent to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
