Ranoj Pegu: No Necessity of Additional Teachers in Assam

Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated on Wednesday that more teachers are not required in the region. Pegu stated at a news conference held at the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission in Guwahati that there are 49 lakhs students and 2 lakh, 21 thousand, 47 teachers in the state.

Pegu stated that the 8000 teaching positions should be eliminated since they are unproductive, noting that the contractual teachers’ positions have already been regularised. He added that the elimination of the positions was done so as to preserve financial integrity.

“There are enough teachers to balance out the number of students in the classrooms, and there are currently 4000 open teaching positions in the schools, which will be filled shortly, and further positions will be established as needed,” he added.

He added that the administration has been effective in enhancing the facilities at the schools. The minister noted that “the schools have showed strong outcomes and dropout rates in higher education have been decreased.”

Moreover, he declared that another TET exam would be held. He also claimed that the state’s education system has been improved compared to the previous years.
