Ranoj Pegu: Will Address Concerns Over School Amalgamation

Guwahati: Assam’s education minister Ranoj Pegu announced on Wednesday that any complaints regarding the closure of underperforming schools in the state may be brought to him in the midst of the controversy surrounding the topic.

The education minister provided an email address and advised the public that they may use it to file complaints about any orders for school mergers or amalgamations or to propose modifications.

Pegu emphasised that they must present convincing arguments supporting the request’s legality.

The email address provided by the cabinet minister is ranojpegu@gmail.com.

The accurate Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) code and the most recent student enrollment data for the disputed school must be provided by complainants, he added.

Taking to Twitter, Pegu wrote, “Any complaint against a school amalgamation/merger order or request for modification, supported by strong logic or legitimate grounds may be sent to ranojpegu@gmail.com. Provide the correct UDISE code and current enrolment figure.”

The education minister continued by tweeting that the state administration is dedicated to effective dispute resolution procedures and the wellbeing of its citizens.

It should be noted that after learning that the state government was considering closing down several schools due to extremely poor performance in the HSLC exams, the results of which were released in June of this year, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in a Twitter spat with his Delhi counterpart.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, had made the point on the microblogging site that additional schools needed to be built right away rather than being closed.

Cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika called out his views as being ignorant and emphasised that the Assam government was simply considering amalgamating these institutions, not closing them down.
