Reddy’s Candidacy Gains Momentum as INDIA Bloc Rallies Support
Majuli: The INDIA bloc’s Vice-Presidential candidate, former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy, is already making a strong impression with a warm reception across the country, according to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Speaking to reporters on August 27, Gogoi expressed his delight, saying, “We are very pleased that the people of India are accepting B Sudarshan Reddy, the INDIA Alliance candidate for the Vice Presidential election. He is already creating an impact, and we wish him all the best.” Gogoi was in Majuli to inaugurate a passenger rest shed at Dhapakgaon Tiniali, a project funded by his MP allocation. The statement from the senior Congress leader underscores the growing consolidation behind Reddy’s candidacy within the opposition.
This sentiment was echoed by Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary M.A. Baby, who termed the Vice-Presidential poll a “political, ideological, and cultural struggle.” Baby praised Reddy’s reputation, adding, “We are proud that CPI (M) is part of the move of the opposition to field a highly competent and eligible citizen of our country to defend India’s constitutional values and idea of India.” Reddy, for his part, has expressed gratitude for the support and pledged his commitment to the Constitution. “I assure that if given an opportunity, I’ll make every possible effort to defend and to protect the Constitution of India,” he said, specifically acknowledging the “invaluable support” from the CPI-M.
The former judge, who also has the backing of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, filed his nomination on August 21 in the presence of top Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. He has consistently maintained his resolve to discharge his duties with impartiality and dedication.
