Religious Procession in Haryana Turns Deadly: Four Killed, Clashes Erupt

National Desk, 1st August: Tragedy struck as at least four lives were lost and several police personnel sustained injuries in violent clashes during a religious procession in Haryana’s Nuh district on Monday.

Communal violence erupted in Nuh when a mob attempted to halt a religious procession organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), leading to stone-pelting incidents and vehicle burnings.

The initial target was the Gorakhnath Temple, where the mob attacked the temple’s priest, leaving him severely injured. The violence escalated with stone-pelting incidents and the destruction of a motorcycle. The chaos resulted in the death of three individuals, including two Home Guards.

The news of the violence spread like wildfire, leading to clashes between protestors from two communities near Sohna Road in Gurugram. They blocked a road for hours, further adding to the tension in the area.

As night fell, the situation took a more sinister turn when a group of miscreants attacked two people, including an Imam, outside an under-construction mosque in Gurugram’s Sector-56. Tragically, Imam Mohammad Saad lost his life in the attack, while the other individual, Khursheed, was shot in the leg and is in critical condition.

Authorities are working tirelessly to restore peace and control the situation. Thirteen Companies of Paramilitary forces have been deployed in Nuh, Sohna, and adjoining districts, with more expected to arrive shortly. Section 144 has been imposed in Faridabad, Palwal, and Gurugram to prevent any untoward incidents in these areas.

In a bid to contain the intense communal tension, internet services in Nuh district will remain suspended until August 2.

As the state grapples with the aftermath of the violent clashes, a Peace Committee meeting is set to commence in Gurugram’s Sohna, aiming to restore calm and unity in the region. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further actions will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
