Remote Arunachal Villages Cut Off from Bameng ADC Headquarters After Relentless Rainfall Triggers Landslides

BAMENG, Arunachal Pradesh – Torrential rains have wreaked havoc in East Kameng district, severing four remote villages under the Bameng assembly constituency from the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) headquarters in Bameng. The villages — Embo Riang, Effa, Gadi Solung, and Lengdi Liyang — have been left completely isolated following a series of landslides that washed away key roads and disrupted all means of connectivity.

The continuous downpour over the past several days has triggered massive soil erosion in the region, leading to significant infrastructural damage. The Bameng Indoor Complex has not been spared either, with reports of parts of the structure sustaining damage due to landslides encroaching on its foundation. All development work in the area has come to a grinding halt, leaving residents cut off from basic public services and economic activities.

For the people of the 8th Bameng Assembly Constituency, life has become a daily struggle. Power lines are down, water supplies have dried up, and the region’s limited medical infrastructure is proving woefully inadequate to handle emergencies. Residents say they have been surviving without electricity or clean water for the past three to four days, further complicating matters in an area already grappling with logistical challenges due to its remote location.

Local villagers have now issued an urgent appeal to their elected representatives and the district administration, demanding swift action to restore essential services and re-establish road connectivity. With monsoon patterns only expected to intensify in the days ahead, the need for immediate intervention is critical to prevent further hardship and potential disaster.
