Renowned Assam Stage Actor Sajid Ahmed Passes Away in Tezpur
Guwahati: The artistic community of Assam is enveloped in sorrow following the passing of the esteemed stage actor Sajid Ahmed, who breathed his last this morning, April 19th, at his home in the Barika Suburi area of Tezpur.
He had been courageously battling a terminal illness for the preceding two months.
Born on December 14, 1960, Sajid Ahmed concluded his professional career in 2020 after serving as a dedicated staff member at the Tezpur Court. His recent struggle with a severe illness spanned 30 days, confining him to his bed for the final fortnight, during which he demonstrated remarkable resilience. His departure marks a significant loss for the region’s vibrant theater landscape, leaving a void where a truly gifted artist once stood.
Sajid Ahmed held a position of high regard within the theatrical circles of Tezpur, and the news of his demise has plunged his fellow artists into profound grief. The theater fraternity mourns the irreparable loss of a dedicated and talented individual.
A notable highlight of his career includes his portrayal of ‘Nat Surya’ in a 12-part television series produced by Guwahati Doordarshan in 2003, commemorating the birth centenary of the iconic Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala. This series was based on the novel Tore More Alokore Yatra by Chandraprasad Saikia.
Furthermore, he graced the screen in a 14-episode series chronicling the life of the revered Srimanta Sankardev, penned by Lakhinandan Bora, directed by Sail Baruah, and brought to life by producer Surya Hazarika. His talent also shone through his performances in numerous significant plays penned by Aishwarya Kakoti.
An outpouring of grief and condolences has followed the news of his passing, with organizations such as the Assam Natya Sanmilan, Tezpur Baan Theatre, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Sonitpur Silpi Samaj, and the cultural group Chatak, alongside countless individuals and institutions, expressing their deepest sympathies to his bereaved family.
