Repolling Underway in Outer Manipur Lok Sabha Seat Amid Tight Security, 55.11% Turnout Recorded by 1 PM
Northeast Desk, 30th April: Election officials reported a voter turnout of 55.11 percent by 1 PM at six polling stations in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat, where repolling is underway on Tuesday. Despite the need for repolling due to previous incidents, no untoward incidents have been reported thus far, with voting proceeding smoothly under tight security arrangements since it commenced at 7 AM.
Repolling became necessary after unidentified individuals damaged EVMs and VVPATs before the completion of voting at four polling stations on April 26. Additionally, EVM malfunctioning was reported at one polling station, while voting could not be completed at another due to threats and intimidation by unknown miscreants.
The affected polling stations include four in the Ukhrul assembly segment and one each in the Chingai assembly seat in Ukhrul and Karong in Senapati. These polling stations have a total of 4,156 voters.
During the initial polling on April 26, 76.06 percent of 4.84 lakh voters exercised their franchise in 13 of the 28 assembly segments of the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency. Voting for the remaining 15 segments, along with the entire Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat, took place in the first phase on April 19.
