Republic Day 2024: ‘Only Women Participants’ in Republic Day Parade 2024
National Desk, 7 May: In an effort to empower Nari Shakti, the Government of India has decided that the Republic day 2024 parade at Kartavya Path in Delhi will see participation only by women in march pasts, tableaux and other performances.
The Defence Minister in March wrote a letter to the armed forces and other government ministers and departments involved in the parade stating that the marching contingents, band and tableaux will have “only women participants”.
“After detailed deliberations, it has been decided that Republic Day 2024 will have women participation, including contingents (marching and bands), tableaux and performances during the parade at the Kartavya Path,” the official said in a office memorandum.

As women have been given leadership opportunities and deployed in combat roles in recent years, the defence forces and paramilitary contingents have chosen female contingent commanders and deputy commanders in line with Prime minister Narendra Modi’s push to encourage their participation in all possible roles in military.
These opportunities have gave chance to the women to join the Indian Army as jawans and also become fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force. Recently, the Army has allowed women officers to join the Regiment of Artillery.
