Republic Day Honors for 1,132 Personnel Across Services

National Desk, 25th January: The Central Government on January 26, 2024 announced the selection of 1,132 personnel from various services, including police, fire service, home guard, civil defence, and correctional service, to receive gallantry and service medals in commemoration of Republic Day.

Among the awardees, two Head Constables from the Border Security Force, late Sanwala Ram Vishnoi and late Shishu Pal Singh, have been posthumously selected for the prestigious President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG).

The 1,132 personnel are recognized in different categories, with two receiving the PMG, 275 receiving the Medals for Gallantry (GM), 102 receiving the President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 753 receiving the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).

The Ministry of Home Affairs, in a statement, confirmed these awards, highlighting that a significant number of the 277 Gallantry Awards are being bestowed upon personnel from left-wing extremist-affected areas, the Jammu and Kashmir region, and other regions for their gallant actions.

The PSM is awarded for a special distinguished record in service, the MSM is for valuable service marked by resourcefulness and devotion to duty, while the PMG and GM are specifically for gallantry in saving life and property, preventing crime, or apprehending criminals.
