Republic Day: UNC calls 6-hour total shutdown in Naga areas
Guwahati: The United Naga Council (UNC) has announced a 6-hour “total shutdown” on January 26, Republic Day in Manipur.
UNC has declared to express the Naga people’s dissatisfaction with the “delaying and frequent backtracking” on the political settlement of the “historic Indo-Naga Framework Agreement” even after more than 6 years of signing, as well as the failure to deliver justice to the victims of the Oting villagers on December 4 and 5, 2021, to this day.
The total shutdown will begin from 6 am and will culminate at 12 noon of the day.
The UNC stated that this action is in response to the United Naga Council presidential council meeting on January 19, 2022 at Tahamzam (Senapati) headquarters, which declared that as part of its non-cooperation movement, the Naga people in Manipur will abstain from participating in the ensuing India’s Republic Day celebration on January 26.
“Tribe hohos, district apex organisations, Naga frontal organisations, and regional organisations are requested to vigorously enforce this direction in their respective jurisdictions,” the directive reads.
