Residents in Assam’s Sonapur Seize Cattle Smugglers’ Vehicle Amid Allegations of Police Complicity
Guwahati, 3rd September: In a dramatic turn of events, local residents in Assam’s Sonapur seized a vehicle used by cattle smugglers on Saturday night. The move followed escalating allegations of police complicity in cattle smuggling operations, reaching a tipping point that drove residents to take matters into their own hands.
Reports circulating in the region suggest that a segment of the police force faced accusations of clandestinely facilitating cattle smuggling activities. These allegations did not sit well with the public, leading to simmering tensions and protests. Some residents even obstructed police patrolling vehicles as an act of defiance against what they perceived as unacceptable police involvement in illicit activities.
However, the situation eventually shifted when another team from the Sonapur police intervened. This intervention helped defuse tensions and resulted in the successful seizure of the vehicle in question. The intercepted vehicle was transporting 13 cows without proper identification, notably lacking a number plate.
In the wake of these events, it is expected that authorities will launch a comprehensive investigation into the allegations of police complicity in cattle smuggling. Such an investigation aims to address public concerns, restore trust in law enforcement, and maintain law and order in the area.
